This is the story of creation in greek mythology.
In the beginning there was Chaos, a void of black darkness. From Chaos came Gaea (the earth) and Uranus (the heavens). Together they produced hundred-handed ones (hecatoncheires),cyclops and twelve titans. However, Uranus disliked the cyclops and the hundred handed ones and pushed them deep into Gaea. She disliked this decided to try to over throw Uranus. Gaea create a special scythe and tried to get one of her children to attack him. Only Kronos, the youngest, was brave enough to try. He and Gaea plotted and planned. Finally, one night Kronos attacked and defeated Uranus, banishing him.
Kronos became the next ruler. Now, Kronos was not a particularly good ruler. He imprisoned the hundred-handed ones and cyclops in Tartarus and married his sister Rhea. They ruled for many years. Kronos had once heard a prophecy that a son would over throw him. To avoid this, Kronos swallowed each of his newborn babies. Rhea became upset about this and made a plan. After the birth of her youngest, Zeus, she hid him and gave Kronos a rock wrapped in baby cloth instead. She left Zeus to be raised by nymphs.
Several years later, after Zeus had grown up, he began to plot with Metis how to defeat his father. Metis gave him a drink that would make Kronos spit up his children. Zeus told Rhea secretly of his plan and she slipped Kronos the special drink, causing him to spit up the other five gods and the rock, still disguised as a baby.
Next, they had to defeat Kronos. The titans sided with Kronos and fought the young gods. Zeus freed the hundred-handed ones and the cyclops and they fought the titans until they broke and ran away. Zeus then exiled the titans to Tartarus, except for Atlas. Because he was the leader, he was sentenced to hold the earth on his shoulders.
In the end, they still had to decide who ruled what. So then Zeus, Poseidon, and Hades did a draw. Zeus got the heavens, Poseidon the sea and Hades the underworld.
